So close…
August 20, 2008
If all goes according to plan, I will arrive in Florence the morning of September 1st.
Here are a few things I know:
- I have 4 roommates in an apartment on Via Ridolfi, just 4 or 5 blocks from my school, Lorenzo de’ Medici
- I am enrolled in 5 classes M-Th: Italian 101, Printmaking, Ceramics, Ancient Rome, and Flamenco.
- Parlo un po d’Italiano….non parlo molto. I speak a little Italian. Though I’m not sure if I can spell it.
- There is a girl from Anacortes, WA who will be on the same flights as me all the way to Florence, Alyssa. Haven’t met her yet.
- I am going to have a difficult time not packing unnecessary things.
- I am so stinkin’ STOKED!
- And…I will really miss my friends and family.
I’ve decided to keep a map on Google so you can see where I’ve been. Here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/katystravels
So far all that’s on it is the location of my school and my apartment!

Katy…
Thank you Katy… Telling people I have niece jetting off to Italy to take classes has upped my sophistication and status rating here in Bellingham. Keep up the good work! Oh and… I LOVE THE FLAMENCO. Can Sofia and I fake it with you when you get home?
Love you, Kelly

Katy! You are going to have so much fun! And that’s an order
I loved Florence. It’s the best place for gelato! And the best gelato in Italy (both Rick Steves and I agree) is right near Ponte Vecchio called Gelateria Carrozze — the address is Piazza del Pesce 3.
For restaurants, I recommend Bibo, also by Ponte Vecchio, and Il Porcospino (the Porcupine) by Accademia (where the David is).
Here’s a few more great gelato places in Florence courtesy of Rick Steves (scroll to the bottom):

Oh, I just checked: Il Porcospino is right across from the Midici Cathedral. Great gnocchi.
